31st of August Blog – Trip Day 2

We started the day with a full English breakfast each which is pretty good going on a French ferry – who knew! Ferry docked in Santander at about 12.30pm Spanish time.  Port estuary is very scenic with a nice run in to the dock past long sandy beaches. Had to wait around for ages to get our bikes off and the heat was really bad deep in the bowels of the boat. When we finally disembarked we filled up with petrol and headed for Burgos on the N623 (the scenic route). Great biking roads all the way through some fantastic countryside.  Lots of hills, dramatic valleys and canyons. Filled up with petrol  again just south of Burgos and headed for Segovia where we had booked the hotel ahead for the night. Mostly motorway (it’s the main road to Madrid) to Segovia, however the last 40 miles were excellent biking roads. Found the hotel no thanks to the Tom Tom, plenty of thanks to one of the locals who pointed us in the right direction with much gesturing. Had a quick swim in the pool followed by  a few beers and a nice meal (roast pigs trotter). Time for bed now, heading for Granada tomorrow, should be good. My god it was hot today!
