1st of September  Blog – Trip Day 3

Up at 7.30am, skipped breakfast to make an early start. Packed the bikes in the cool morning air. Today was going to be a big bike day. Left Segovia and headed for Madrid, stopped just south of the city on the A42 and filled up with petrol. Taking the motorway we made it Toledo at around 11.30am where we stopped at the city gates for some refreshments and for Nigel to try and fix the tracking system.  After a quick stop we took the 401 and headed for Cordoba via Ciudad Real. The 401 is an excellent biking road, not much traffic, nice road service and we made good time. After Ciudad Real we continued on the 412, before finally joining the 420 to Cordoba. This was a brilliant road across a picturesque mountain range, superb for bikers, ah if all roads could be this good! We skipped Cordoba taking the E5 east, an uninspiring stretch of motorway until we joined the A44  to Granada. The last eighty miles was hard work as we were all very tired. Got into Granada at about 6.15pm and the Tom Tom got us straight to the hotel. Really nice hotel called the ‘Hotel Corona de Granada’ (4 star) right in the centre of the city. We booked it in advance on LateRooms.com and got a great deal, only 70 euros for a room that sleeps 3. We have a pretty good internet connection here so we should be able to load the photos we have taken onto the web site. Granada is a fantastic bustling city with lots of great bars and restaurants. After Tapas at an outside cafe we had a few beers and then back to the hotel for an early night, we had covered over 400 miles today and passed the 1000 miles total for the trip. Not bad for two and a half days riding.
